How Haddee began

Help Our Teachers.

Haddee began during the COVID-19 pandemic as a H.O.T. project—Help Our Teachers. Founder Dandan Pan saw schools close and teaching hours disappear, affecting educators professionally, financially, and socially.

In 2020, a small group of young contributors helped define and build the first platform. Haddee launched its first class on January 23, 2021. The current site carries the founding idea forward through one-on-one tutoring: support good teachers so they can support students.

The name and logo

Haddee, the family dog behind our name.

Haddee is Dandan's family dog. The company was named after her to give the platform the same sense of warmth the family associates with Haddee at home.

Emily—then 14 years old and now at MIT—designed the original wordmark. Look closely: Haddee's head forms the letter “a.”
