The period of time in high school when we apply to colleges is the most stressful time of our lives—point blank, period. We all know it’s true. Throughout our childhood, our academic goals are largely small-scale; we just need to get good enough grades so that our parents won’t get mad at us. But once we reach high school, that all changes. Suddenly everything we do is centered around the singular goal of getting into a good college. And because the college we get into could potentially shape the rest of our lives, our entire career and life path hinge on whether or not we accomplish this goal—or at least that’s how it seems. So if there’s anything we can do to increase our odds of getting into a good school, we pounce on it, because we know that it could make all the difference.

Enter Haddee’s internship program. Haddee is proud to offer numerous virtual internships for high school students. We have a wide variety of opportunities available in fields like computer science, engineering, writing, web design, and social media management and marketing. These internships are available year-round, and many of them do not require any previous experience. Not only do they provide valuable experience that can help you in your future career, but they also look great on a resume or college application. And right now, David—one of our Haddee interns—is headed to the school of his dreams: the University of Southern California.

What is USC?

USC is a private university in Los Angeles, California. It focuses primarily on research and consists of more than twenty undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools. It is particularly known for its role in the creation of the Internet, being the birthplace of the domain name system, and also its extensive athletic program, the USC Trojans. Consistently ranked among the best colleges in the United States, USC has a highly selective admissions process, so it is a great accomplishment that David was able to get in. USC’s reputation often precedes it, and David admits the school’s high stature—and the surrounding neighborhood of University Park, Los Angeles—was what first attracted him.

“USC’s location and weather, combined with its prestige, appealed to me initially,” says David.

Alumni Program

However, when he began researching further into the school, there was another element that captured his attention.

“As I was applying and researching more about the school,” David says, “the Trojan network with alumni that provided a lot of opportunities drew me closer to the school.”

David is referring to the USC Alumni Association, a network that fuels cooperation and opportunities among USC alumni. When you get accepted to USC, you aren’t just being welcomed for four years—you’re being welcomed for life. This is especially beneficial in the world of business, where every connection you’re able to build could be the difference between whether you do or don’t get the job of your dreams. There are alumni networks dedicated to educators, entrepreneurs, realtors, and more; whichever field you want to go into, there is likely to be a USC alumnus there to lend you a helping hand.

Community

But more so than any academic feature of the school, what appeals to David the most is the culture. “I think USC has a stronger school spirit than most schools, and a better social life,” David says.

After all, when we attend a college, we’re not just going to a school—we’re entering a community. This is a big part of the reason why the COVID-19 pandemic took such a large toll on students. The experience of getting to meet new people and immerse yourself in a brand-new culture is simply lost when classes are virtual and students are unable to live on campus. David is glad that he will be able to attend USC in person and get the college experience that he has always dreamed of.

David is set to begin attending USC in the fall of 2022. He is excited to begin his adult life. “I get to experience a new life with new responsibilities,” David says, “which I’m a bit afraid of, but I’m excited about it.”

Haddee is proud to congratulate David on getting into the college of his dreams, and we welcome any new, talented high schoolers who want to join our team as interns. Whether you’re looking for something that will help you get into college or you just want some experience to prepare yourself for your career, Haddee’s internships are a great opportunity. And because our internships are virtual and cover a wide variety of job types, no matter where you live or what you want to get experience in, there’s a good chance that Haddee has an internship for you.
